Nevada City, California's Dry Rot has been playing death metal since 2016, drawing from the style's most direct and unadorned traditions — riff-forward, brutal, and unconcerned with modernization. Operating out of a small Northern California mountain town gives them a certain outsider quality, removed from the scene politics and trends of larger urban metal centers.

Formed in 2024 out of Union, New Jersey, DTA came out of the gate swinging with the kind of urgent, no-frills aggression that defined early speed metal before thrash hardened its edges. Their sound splits the difference between the breakneck tempos of classic NWOBHM-influenced speed metal and the crunchier, pit-ready riff structures of East Coast thrash. A young band with teeth already showing.

DTI emerged from Lynnwood, Washington in 2019 at the crossroads of black metal's cold atmosphere and grindcore's blunt-force intensity. Their approach fuses blast-beat brutality and punk hostility with corrosive black metal textures, a combination that has flourished in the Pacific Northwest's underground. Short, vicious, and uncompromising.

Lewisville, Texas-based Duality formed in 2020 with a sound that pushes progressive and melodic death metal into ambitious, technically demanding territory. Layered song structures and melodic guitar work give their death metal a cinematic quality uncommon for a band so early in their existence. They represent the thoughtful, arrangement-conscious strand of the DFW metal underground.

Out of Toms River, New Jersey since 2013, Due for Extinction have carved out a lane in the overlap between technical death metal and deathcore, where surgical precision and sheer sonic punishment coexist.
