Chicago sludge metal project active since 2010. Three releases including the simply titled I and the later Purgative deliver thick, punishing heaviness that channels the Midwest's industrial landscape into music built for endurance.
Green Bay/Milwaukee black metal project whose albums The Plutonian Shore and Echoes Over Oceans pair Edgar Allan Poe's cosmic imagery with atmospheric black metal since 2012. Wisconsin winter channeled through literary darkness.
Phoenix groove metal project from the Arizona underground.
Lafayette, Louisiana death metal project whose French name — 'dead tree' — and 2019 EP Insufferable Humanity channel Cajun Country desolation into grinding extremity. Bayou death metal with a Francophone identity.
Denton, Texas post-metal project. Yes, like the restaurant.

Arcadea is a synth-driven metal project from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 2015 by Mastodon drummer Brann Dailor alongside keyboardists Core Atoms and Raheem Amlani, with Dailor serving as lead vocalist. Their self-titled debut, released in June 2017 on Relapse Records, featured no guitars—both Atoms and Amlani play only synthesizers—resulting in a futuristic, psychedelic sound built on cosmic themes and prog-funk rhythms. The band returned with a second album, The Exodus of Gravity, in August 2025.
Bristol, Connecticut NWOTHM project whose 2022 debut Blame! delivers classic heavy metal with manga-inspired aesthetics. The name suggests paradise lost, the exclamation point adding urgency to their New England metal.
Arlington, Texas thrash metal act with four releases since 2020. From the Above and Beyond EP to singles blending thrash with urban energy, they represent the DFW Metroplex's ongoing contribution to American thrash.
