Red Lion, Pennsylvania's Magnus have been navigating progressive metal and rock with a deliberate, craft-focused approach since 2010. Their songwriting prioritizes depth over flash, reflecting a DIY ethos native to the rural Pennsylvania scene.

Magrudergrind formed in Washington, DC in September 2002, building a relentless noise-core and grindcore attack from their early primitive demo phase through increasingly refined recordings. The band released a self-titled album on Willowtip Records in 2009 and followed it with II (2016) on Relapse Records, recorded with producer Kurt Ballou at Godcity Studio, which incorporated sharper thrash riffing alongside their characteristic blast-beat brutality. Now based in Brooklyn, the band has remained active through consistent lineup changes over more than two decades.

Roanoke's Magus the Giant are a new arrival to the sludge metal world, born in 2024 with the Appalachian mountains as a backdrop and a sound built accordingly — slow, colossal, and corroded. Virginia's heavy underground has a new presence to reckon with.

Athens, Georgia's Maha Pralaya draw on Hindu cosmology for their name and on extreme metal's most volatile fusion — black and death — for their sound. Since 2017 they've produced something genuinely unsettling out of the South's college-town underground.

Chesapeake, Virginia's Mahr take their name from Germanic nightmare folklore and their sound from black metal's coldest, most abrasive traditions. A project since 2018, Mahr conjures something palpably nocturnal and hostile out of the Tidewater region.

Out of the Black Hills since 2025, Maidencage are as raw and new as their surroundings demand — black metal laced with punk's contempt for comfort. A frontier-feeling band in both geography and attitude.

Boston's Maidenhead smash death and thrash metal together with the righteous aggression of New England's storied hardcore and metal lineage. Since 2022 they've been proving that the crossover between those genres still has teeth.
