An Indiana progressive metal outfit formed in 2015, Farwatch explores the territory where metal's heaviness meets rock's melodic sensibility. Their sound is expansive and carefully arranged, leaning into the complexity that defines the progressive metal and rock crossover.
Lincoln, Nebraska's Fascinus Rex refuse to be pinned to one corner of heavy music — since 2019 they've been throwing together traditional heavy metal, doom, thrash, and crossover into a chaotic and energetic mix that feels genuinely unpredictable. Few bands in the Great Plains wear their eclecticism so unabashedly.
Cleveland's Fascist Insect have been waging sonic war since 2008, fusing the raw political fury of grindcore with the slow-burn punishment of doom and the street-level aggression of crossover. The combination sounds exactly as volatile as it should.
Faster Pussycat formed in Los Angeles in 1985 and became one of the defining sleaze-rock bands of the Sunset Strip era. Led by Taime Downe, the band mixed glam metal flash with punky looseness, Aerosmith-style swagger, and a grimier street-level personality than many of their hair-metal peers. Their 1987 self-titled debut introduced staples such as "Bathroom Wall," "Don't Change That Song," "Cathouse," and "Babylon," songs that turned Hollywood decadence into short, rowdy hard-rock hooks. Wake Me When It's Over brought wider attention in 1989, especially through "House of Pain," while still keeping the band's rougher rock-and-roll instincts intact. Whipped! arrived as the commercial climate around glam metal was collapsing, but it showed a band willing to get stranger, heavier, and less polished. Later lineups continued under Downe's direction, bringing industrial and electro-rock touches into the sound while keeping the Faster Pussycat name tied to excess, grit, and nightclub chaos. Their catalog remains a document of Los Angeles rock at its most reckless and unvarnished.
Fate of All is a melodic death/doom metal solo project from Monterrey, Mexico, formed in 2018. The project released its debut album Angels Around Us in December 2018, a five-track record blending melodic death and doom metal.
Fates Warning formed in Hartford, Connecticut in 1982 and are recognized as one of the founding acts of American progressive metal alongside Queensrÿche and Dream Theater. After beginning as an Iron Maiden-influenced heavy metal band, the group pivoted decisively with Awaken the Guardian (1986), featuring guitarist Frank Aresti, and followed with the landmark No Exit (1988) and the intricately arranged Perfect Symmetry (1989), the latter frequently cited as a defining album of the genre. Guitarist Jim Matheos has remained the sole constant member through decades of lineup changes, with the band's most recent album Long Day Good Night released in 2020.
Fear Catalyst is a melodic death metal band from Aguascalientes, Mexico, formed in 2022. The five-piece released their debut full-length Atrabilis in March 2022, featuring dual guitars and the classic melodeath sound.
Los Angeles' Fear Factory were industrial metal visionaries who merged machine-gun precision riffing with Burton C. Bell's groundbreaking clean/harsh vocal dichotomy, creating a template that countless bands would follow. 'Demanufacture' and 'Obsolete' remain towering achievements in the fusion of extreme metal and industrial electronics, their dystopian sci-fi themes proving eerily prescient decades later.
