Milwaukee's Desperate Spinsters have been running crossover thrash through the city's underground since 2012, splitting the difference between hardcore's brevity and thrash's riff density. The Wisconsin scene has always had a chip on its shoulder, and this band plays like they know it.

Atlanta's Despoiler emerged in 2019 with a death-tinged thrash attack that fits naturally into the city's long tradition of extreme metal extremity. Their riffs carry the taut, angular energy of thrash while the death metal influence darkens the harmonic palette and adds rot to the low frequencies.
Madison's Despojo formed in 2024 at the intersection of doom and post-metal, building slow-burning compositions where weight and atmosphere are equally weighted. The Spanish name — meaning dispossession or stripping away — signals an aesthetic of reduction: everything unnecessary discarded, leaving only resonance.
Despond have been active in the American black metal underground since 1996, an unusually long tenure for a project whose Bandcamp presence keeps the mission minimal. Three decades of existence give their work a stubborn, weathered authenticity that newer projects cannot fake.
Huntsville, Alabama's Destined have been exploring gothic metal's atmospheric and emotional dimensions since 2010, drawing on the genre's lineage of darkness, melody, and minor-key grandeur. In a city better known for aerospace engineering than gothic aesthetics, they carve out a space of deliberate shadow.
Minneapolis thrash act Destitute have been honing their craft since 2013, operating in the aggressive, no-nonsense tradition of Midwestern thrash that prizes velocity and groove in equal measure. Their name matches the aesthetic: stripped of excess, down to the bone.
Devastating Deathcore from San Antonio.
Destroy Boys formed in Sacramento in 2015 when Alexia Roditis and Violet Mayugba were teenagers, and the band grew from garage shows into one of the most visible young punk acts from California. Early releases such as Sorry, Mom and Make Room captured a raw, wiry sound, with songs like "I Threw Glass at My Friend's Eyes and Now I'm on Probation" and "Crybaby" turning sharp personal moments into quick, nervy punk. Open Mouth, Open Heart expanded the band's reach with more confident hooks and a wider emotional palette, while Funeral Soundtrack #4 pushed further into identity, anger, vulnerability, and growth. Destroy Boys fit punk and post-punk scope directly through their sound, scene, and lyrical focus on alienation, queerness, interpersonal harm, and self-definition. Their music can be scrappy, melodic, sarcastic, and bruised within the same song. The band's appeal lies in the sense that the songs are still close to the rooms that made them: imperfect, urgent, communal, and driven by the need to say something before the feeling passes.
