Furious Thrash Metal from Fort Worth.
New Jersey's Revenge Ritual emerged in 2023 dragging sludge metal's lurching, tar-thick riffs through the confrontational energy of hardcore, producing a sound that is as punishing as it is raw. The collision of sludge's slow-burn heaviness with hardcore's short-fuse intensity is a volatile combination, and Revenge Ritual lean into the tension rather than resolving it. Still early in their existence, they've already staked out a sound with real teeth.
Arlington, Massachusetts's Revengeance have been delivering high-octane power/speed metal since 2012, channeling the fist-pumping bombast of classic European power metal through the razor-edged velocity of American speed metal. Their sound is unapologetically epic — twin guitar harmonies, soaring vocals, and tempos that never let up — which cuts against Boston's more indie-leaning reputation and plants a flag for the region's underserved metal faithful. Over a decade in, they remain one of New England's most enthusiastic proponents of pure metallic excess.
Thrash-tinged heavy metal from San Antonio.
Sunol, California's Reverted have been pursuing no-frills death metal since 2011, operating out of the East Bay's unpretentious underground with a sound that favors density and heaviness over technical showmanship. Their approach is old-school at its core — crushing, mid-paced death metal with enough groove to keep the head moving and enough filth to satisfy death metal purists. Fifteen years of activity have sharpened their approach to a brutal point.
Seattle's Reviled have been fusing black and death metal into something caustic and extreme since 2017, drawing on both traditions without fully surrendering to either. The black/death combination gives their music a fevered quality — the atmospheric menace of black metal colliding with death metal's sheer physical force — and Seattle's grey, rain-soaked environment seems like a fitting birthplace for something this unrelenting. The Bandcamp URL referencing Texas adds an intriguing wrinkle to what is otherwise a thoroughly Pacific Northwest-rooted sound.
Revocation are a Boston, Massachusetts technical death and thrash metal band formed in 2006 by guitarist and vocalist Dave Davidson, evolving from his earlier project Cryptic Warning. Signed to Relapse Records for their 2009 debut Empire of the Obscene and later to Metal Blade Records, the band has released nine studio albums defined by intricate guitar work, progressive song structures, and intellectually engaged lyrics, with Deathless (2014) and The Outer Ones (2018) representing high points in their catalog.
Arnold, Maryland's Revolta are a study in metamorphosis — starting as a thrash metal outfit in 2008 before gradually calcifying into the slow, swamp-thick territory of sludge metal, a transformation that mirrors how many bands of the late 2000s hardcored scene came to discover the weight of amplifiers cranked past reasonable limits. The Chesapeake Bay region has never been a hotbed of extreme metal, making Revolta's persistence across genre evolution all the more notable. Their later sludge work carries the patient fury of a band that has nothing to prove except to themselves.
Queens, New York City's Revoltage bring the borough's hardscrabble street energy to thrash metal, forging riffs that carry the density of New York hardcore's influence but the technical aggression of classic thrash. New York has a long and proud tradition of metal that hits harder and faster than its geographic peers, and Revoltage inherit that tradition with no shortage of ferocity. Their music is city-forged and uncompromising — the kind of thrash that feels like it was written on a subway platform.
