John Frum is a progressive death metal band from Philadelphia formed in 2011, featuring Liam Wilson (The Dillinger Escape Plan) on bass, Derek Rydquist (The Faceless) on vocals, and guitarist Matt Hollenberg. Their 2017 Relapse Records debut A Stirring in the Noos delivered 40 minutes of psychedelic, darkly atmospheric death metal that drew on the members' backgrounds in some of American extreme music's most demanding bands.

John Garcia is a vocalist from Arizona best known as the founding singer of Kyuss, the desert rock band whose early-1990s output helped define the stoner rock genre. His 2014 self-titled solo debut on Napalm Records marked the beginning of an active solo career that has included The Coyote Who Spoke in Tongues (2017) and a collaboration under the John Garcia and the Band of Gold name, showcasing his signature gravelly vocal delivery in a range of desert-tinged heavy rock settings.

Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania's John Hahn has charted an evolving course from hard rock through heavy metal and into progressive territory, his later work favoring complex arrangements and atmospheric dynamics over straightforward aggression.

Stanton, California's Johnny Bee pursues death metal on a decidedly individual basis, a one-person project that has been developing a blunt, unfussy extremity since 2015 without the need for spectacle or scene recognition.
Knoxville, TN · 2012–present · active
Knoxville, Tennessee's Johnny Newman brings an orchestral ambition to progressive metal, weaving symphonic arrangements into technically complex compositions — a solo project rooted in the kind of grand, cinematic vision that the symphonic metal tradition does best.
Clovis, CA · 2013–present · active
Clovis, California's Join the Dead play thrash metal with an enthusiastic grip on the genre's essentials — speed, riff density, and an aggressive attitude that hasn't dulled since the band formed in 2013.
Chicago, IL · 2015–present · active
Chicago's Joker bring a melodic sensibility to heavy metal that owes as much to hard rock as it does to the heavier end of the spectrum, a band whose melodic hooks and polished delivery reflect their roots in one of America's great rock cities.
Missoula, MT · 2017–present · active
Missoula, Montana's Jolly Jane collide sludge metal's swampy downtuned drag with the loose, aggressive energy of crossover thrash — a scrappy, unpredictable combination that feels born from the Big Sky State's geographic isolation and do-it-yourself ethos.
