Los Angeles, CA · 2021–present · active
Drawing on the ancient Gaulish deity for their name, Los Angeles act Esus in Tenebris fuse pagan imagery with cold, atmospheric black metal darkness. Their 2021 formation marks a project built around ritual atmosphere and heathen conviction.
Philadelphia, PA · 2023–present · active
Philadelphia's Et in Arcadia Ego borrow their name from the memento mori tradition, applying that fatalistic weight to stark, aggressive black metal. The project has been carving its grim pastoral into the underground since 2023.
Silver Spring · 2017–present · active
Silver Spring's Et Mors traffic in the slowest, most suffocating corners of funeral doom and black metal, constructing cathedrals of grief note by agonizing note. Since 2017, the project has pursued an uncompromising vision of sonic desolation.
Kansas City, MO · 2023–present · active
Kansas City's Etched Horizon defy easy categorization, weaving progressive structures, post-black atmospherics, and experimental death metal into something genuinely unsettling. Founded in 2023, they are one of the more adventurous acts to emerge from the Midwest's recent underground surge.
Modesto, CA · 2009–present · active
Modesto's Etched in Stone push progressive deathcore into ambitious territory, layering technical death metal muscle over carefully constructed song architecture. Active since 2009, they have grown into one of Central California's most accomplished heavy acts.
Atlanta, GA · 2009–present · active
Atlanta's Etched in Stone deliver heavy metal with a Southern backbone, channeling the city's long tradition of hard-hitting rock and metal into a sound that feels grounded and road-tested. They have been part of Georgia's heavy music community since 2009.
Portland, OR · 2020–present · active
Portland black metal project Eterna distills the grey, rain-soaked atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest into cold, atmospheric compositions. Formed in 2020, the band captures a sense of place as effectively as a sound.
Phoenix, AZ · 2021–present · active
Eternal play old-school death metal with the grime, swing, and riff memory that made the style feel dangerous before it became overly polished. Forsaken Memories introduced a raw melodic-thrash edge, while Faceless Evil moved the band closer to a classic death metal vocabulary: guttural vocals, grinding guitar tone, and songs that balance speed with corpse-heavy groove. Cryptic Lust is the clearest statement of that approach, pulling from late-eighties and early-nineties Florida and Swedish death metal without sounding like a museum piece. Emilio Ortega's vocals and guitar work give the songs a rotten, commanding presence, with Sofie Nabboud's guitars, Xander Bridge's drumming, and Rob Wolfe's bass locking into arrangements that move between thrash attack, doomier stomps, and serrated leads. Tracks such as "Cryptic Lust," "Thorns of Regret," and "Conjuring the Void" show a band more interested in memorable riffs than technical clutter. Eternal's sound is filthy but readable, brutal but not flat, and driven by the sense that every tempo change should make the next riff hit harder.
NY · 2019–present · active
New York's Eternal Ascent combine symphonic grandeur with power metal's soaring melodicism, constructing anthemic compositions built for arenas and imagined medieval battlefields alike. Active since 2019, they pursue unapologetic epic bombast.
