Smartsville, California's Divine Defecation — operating out of the rural Sierra Nevada foothills — arrived in 2023 with the blunt, purposeful aggression of brutal death metal and no interest in softening the edges. A newcomer in the grand tradition of California's grotesque BDM underground, they make music calibrated for the pit and nowhere else.

Divine Empire were a death/thrash metal band formed in Boca Raton, Florida in 1997. The trio shared personnel with Malevolent Creation, including bassist Jason Blachowicz, guitarist John Paul Soars, and drummer Derek Roddy, one of the most technically regarded drummers in the Florida death metal scene. Active until 2007, the band released four albums — Redemption, Doomed to Inherit, Nostradamus, and Method of Execution — drawing on classic Florida death metal riffing with a thrash-forward orientation.

Divine Heresy is a Los Angeles-based technical death/groove metal band formed in 2006 by guitarist Dino Cazares, a co-founder of Fear Factory. The band's debut album Bleed the Fifth (2007) sold nearly 3,000 copies in its first week and showcased Cazares's mechanized riffing alongside vocalist Travis Neal and drummer Tim Yeung of Vital Remains. A second album, Bringer of Plagues, followed in 2009 via Century Media, co-produced by Logan Mader.

Philadelphia's Divine Humanity have been building their progressive metal vision since 2017 in one of the East Coast's most storied heavy music cities. Their approach favors the expansive, compositionally rigorous end of progressive metal — layered arrangements and thoughtful dynamics over sheer aggression, in a city that has historically rewarded both.

San Antonio's Divine Ruins have been developing their progressive metal craft since 2020, adding to a city better known for brutal death metal an approach that emphasizes arrangement complexity and emotional range. Their progressive bent suits a band interested in building something that lasts beyond the immediate crush of the riff.

Denver's Divine Torture arrived in 2021 with a brutal death metal mandate, contributing to the Colorado capital's increasingly active extreme underground. Their sound follows the genre's most relentless traditions — blastbeats, guttural vocals, and riffs designed to obliterate rather than seduce, a worthy addition to Denver's growing death metal footprint.
