Based in Kennebec County, their music sounds like it grew out of the woods rather than any rehearsal space.

Phoenix's Halls of Mandos take their name from Tolkien's realm of the dead and build their sound accordingly — doom-laden, post-metal architecture with industrial undercurrents that give the music a cold, machine-like dread. An intriguing young project born in 2023.

Boston's Hallucivore arrived in 2025 fusing black and death metal in the tradition of the American underground — caustic, hostile, and pulling no punches. New England has a long black metal history, and this is a promising entry into it.

Indianapolis death metal outfit Hamarr came together in 2022, delivering straightforward brutality without pretense. Their name echoes the Old Norse word for hammer, and the music swings accordingly.

Seattle's Hammer Strike emerged in 2026 drawing equally from death, thrash, and black metal — a Pacific Northwest act with no interest in picking just one lane of extreme metal aggression.

Brooklyn's Hammerhoid have been gleefully ransacking the intersection of speed, thrash, and black metal since 2014, their New York City chaos lending the music an urgency that straight-up retro acts rarely achieve.

Cleveland's Hammr channel the blackened speed metal of the early 1980s with a punk-soaked fury that fits perfectly in a city with a long history of no-bullshit heavy music. Active since 2018 and showing no signs of slowing.
