Black Stone Cherry make heavy Southern hard rock that feels rooted in blues phrasing, family-band chemistry, and modern radio punch. Chris Robertson's gravelly voice and thick guitar tone sit at the center, but the band's identity also depends on Ben Wells's stage-wire energy, John Fred Young's hard-swinging drums, and a rhythm section that keeps the grooves physical. Their self-titled debut introduced a mix of muscular riffs and storytelling hooks, while Folklore and Superstition, Kentucky, Family Tree, The Human Condition, and Screamin' at the Sky kept refining the balance between blues-rock warmth and heavier arena impact. The songs often move with classic-rock confidence, but the production and choruses hit with post-grunge and alternative-metal weight. Even their ballads tend to carry grit rather than polish for polish's sake. Black Stone Cherry sound best when the riffs have room to breathe, the drums lean forward, and Robertson's melodies turn hardship, pride, and survival into something built for a loud crowd.

Black Tusk formed in Savannah, Georgia in January 2005 when members of disbanding punk bands began playing together on the same street, quickly gravitating toward what they describe as 'swamp metal'—a particularly murky strain of sludge that AllMusic linked to the broader Savannah scene alongside Baroness and Kylesa. After early releases on Hyperrealist and a series of splits, the band signed to Relapse Records in 2009, releasing Taste the Sin (2010) and Set the Dial (2011). Bassist Jonathan Athon died in November 2014 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Black Veil Brides reignited glam metal theatricality for the Hot Topic generation, pairing Andy Biersack's commanding stage presence with anthemic, dual-guitar-driven metal that owes as much to Kiss and Motley Crue as it does to modern metalcore. Albums like 'Wretched and Divine' and 'Vale' cemented them as one of the most polarizing yet commercially successful rock acts of the 2010s.

Blackbraid is an Indigenous black metal project from the Adirondack Mountains of New York, created by Sgah'gahsowáh, also known as Jon Krieger. Emerging in 2022 with Blackbraid I, the project quickly drew attention for combining melodic and atmospheric black metal with a deep relationship to landscape, rage, grief, and Indigenous identity. Blackbraid II and Blackbraid III expanded the scope, bringing more confidence, sharper production, and a broader sense of ceremony without losing the project's raw force. The music uses tremolo riffs, blast beats, sweeping melodic lines, acoustic passages, and flute or nature-linked textures to create a sound that feels rooted in mountains, forests, and memory. Blackbraid's songs often address colonial violence, spiritual endurance, ancestral presence, and the overwhelming power of the natural world, but they do so through black metal's intensity rather than detached explanation. The project matters because it brings a distinct voice into a genre that often leans on European myth and cold abstraction. Blackbraid's strength is not only representation; it is songwriting. The riffs are memorable, the atmosphere is immersive, and the emotional stakes feel immediate. The music is fierce, mournful, and proudly tied to place.
