WarTorn came up in Salisbury, Maryland in 2014, bringing a classic thrash metal sensibility to the Eastern Shore with genuine aggression and technical purpose. Salisbury sits outside the Baltimore-DC heavy metal axis, and the band carries the chip-on-the-shoulder energy of a scene that has to work harder for recognition. Their thrash is tight, mean, and built to last.
New Orleans' Wasted Creation formed in 2020 at the punishing convergence of technical death metal and deathcore, drawing on a city whose musical DNA runs unusually deep even for extreme metal. The technical sophistication of their death metal side coexists with the sheer brutality of deathcore in a way that feels native to a city that has always blended traditions without hesitation. They arrived ready to inflict serious damage.
Savage Death Metal out of Texas.
Detroit's Wastelander have been fusing black metal, thrash, and crust punk since 2008 with the post-industrial bleakness that city tends to produce in abundance. Their sound is grimy, propulsive, and absolutely uncompromising — the kind of blackened thrash that draws a straight line from the old Teutonic thrash menace through American hardcore hostility. Detroit gave them everything they needed to make music that sounds like it comes from nowhere else.
Ventura County, California's Watch You Fall formed in 2024, arriving with a straightforward metalcore attack shaped by the Southern California scene's long tradition of turning beach proximity into aggression. They are a young band with something to prove, which gives their material an urgency that feels earned rather than performed. Metalcore from the SoCal sprawl, built for stages and nothing else.
Progressive thrash pioneers from Austin. Insanely technical and ahead of their time.
Heavy Stoner / Doom Metal out of Texas.
Out of Kendall Park, New Jersey since 2009, We All Have Day Jobs bring a sardonic self-awareness to their deathcore that is written right into the name — extreme music made by people living ordinary lives who happen to need to play brutally heavy music to survive them. Over fifteen years of operation, they have earned their place in the New Jersey underground with a commitment to the form that outlasts most bands who start with more fanfare. The deathcore is serious even when the name is not.
Lake Charles, Louisiana's We Are the Virus formed in 2023 at the crossroads of groove metal and Southern metal, which is almost the only kind of metal the Louisiana Gulf Coast knows how to make — slow enough to feel inevitable, heavy enough to leave a mark. They bring the swagger of Southern metal's swagger and groove metal's locked-in bottom end to a city that has produced some of the region's meanest heavy music. The name is a statement of intent.
