Whittier, California's Exmortus occupy a singular niche — neoclassical leads draped over technical thrash and death metal architecture, a style that demands as much from the fingers as from the throat. Since reforming their lineup in 2014, they've refined a sound where Baroque counterpoint and Bay Area-style aggression are treated as equally valid weapons.

Tampa's Exorcism Wounds evolved from raw black metal into a black/speed/thrash hybrid since forming in 2021, with the Florida city's long legacy of extreme metal clearly shaping their increasingly aggressive trajectory. The shift toward speed and thrash has sharpened their sound into something fiercer and more kinetic.

Seattle's Expiration Date have been melding melodic death metal with thrash metal since 2016, drawing on both the city's experimental spirit and the northern European melodic death tradition. Their sound balances memorable melodic hooks against the technical drive and tempo of the thrash backbone beneath them.

Rochester's Explicit Death have been thrashing since 2018, representing the kind of straight-ahead, no-apologies New York metal that the state's upstate cities have quietly sustained for decades. Their Bandcamp handle adds "noise" to the equation, suggesting an abrasive edge beyond standard thrash convention.

Dallas thrash outfit Exploder have been at it since 2015, delivering the genre's classic hallmarks — speed, aggression, and riff-first songwriting — with a Texas directness that suits the form well. The DFW underground has always had a taste for uncompromising metal, and Exploder fit that tradition to a T.

Geneseo, Illinois' Expulsion have been playing thrash metal since 2017 from one of the American Midwest's smaller college towns, demonstrating that the genre's DIY ethos takes root just as well in rural Illinois as in any major city. Their Bandcamp handle curiously references grind, suggesting a harder edge beneath the thrash foundation.

San Francisco's Extermination have been keeping the Bay Area's thrash tradition alive since 2013, drawing direct lines back to the scene that gave the world Metallica, Exodus, and Testament. Their music honors that legacy without merely imitating it — aggressive, riff-driven, and unashamed of where it comes from.

San Fernando Valley's Extinction have been fusing thrash and death metal since 2020, drawing on Southern California's long relationship with extreme music to produce something that honors both traditions. The Valley's sprawling suburban geography seems to fuel a certain restless, aggressive energy in the bands it produces.
