NV · 2012–present · active
Nevada doom and drone metal project with six releases since 2012. Their catalog — including the evocatively titled Echoes Beyond the Ruins ov Rust and Razors — trades in the slowest, heaviest frequencies the desert state can produce.
Long Beach, CA · 2003–present · active
Seattle/Long Beach doom and drone metal project. The minimalist name matches their approach — glacially paced, frequency-obsessed heaviness that operates at the outer reaches of metal's slowest subgenre.
CA · 2004–present · active
Author & Punisher is the solo industrial doom and drone metal project of San Diego-based mechanical engineer Tristan Shone, active since 2004. Shone performs entirely on custom-fabricated machines and controllers called Drone Machines, devices that grew out of his masters thesis at the University of California, San Diego, and which draw directly from industrial robotics and automation. His catalog includes numerous releases on Relapse Records, with Nocturnal Birding arriving in October 2025 and marking the first time a second full bandmember, guitarist Doug Sabolick, has joined the project.
Mount Sterling, KY · active
Mount Sterling, Kentucky's Bastard Sons of a Judas Goat operate in the slow, suffocating realm of drone and doom metal, crafting purely instrumental soundscapes built on noise and desolation.
San Francisco, CA · 2014–present · active

Denton, TX · 2025–present · active
Denton doom and drone project born in 2025, weaving slow, hypnotic tones into extended meditations on weight and desolation.
Oshkosh, WI · 2015–present · active
Oshkosh's Cavernlight are a deeply mournful doom/drone/post-metal project whose music unfolds like an extended grief ritual — slow, crushing, and suffused with genuine desolation alongside acts like Thou and Bell Witch.
Vancouver, WA · 2010–present · active
Vancouver, WA's Cloak of Displacement inhabit the slow, suffocating intersection of black metal and drone, constructing vast, formless pieces built on dissonance and sustained tension. Their work is meditative and unsettling in equal measure.
Austin, TX · 1998–present · active
Austin, Texas's Communion inhabit the slowest, heaviest end of doom and drone, letting notes decay into cavernous silence and drone into near-silence before crushing you under their weight. Funeral doom spaciousness and stoner haze combine into something monolithic.
