As of 2026-07-30, US Metal Index indexes venue data across the United States, and one number stands out: no single venue in the country has hosted more than 8 metal shows in our database. That venue is Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan — a suburban Detroit amphitheater that has quietly become the busiest metal stage we track, and it isn't particularly close to a coastal media capital or a historic scene hub.

The gap between first and second place is also notable. Pine Knob's 8 shows put it a full show ahead of Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois, which sits at 7. After that, the field compresses fast: a cluster of venues at 6 shows, another cluster at 5, and then a long tail of 4-show venues that make up the bulk of our top 15.

Below is the full ranking of venues in our current dataset, ordered by total show count. This isn't a curated "best of" list — it's a direct count of what our index has recorded, venue by venue.

Amphitheaters Dominate, But Not Exclusively

Of the 15 venues in our list, 10 are outdoor amphitheaters or music centers — venues built for touring packages that move between 5,000 and 20,000 capacity sheds. That includes Pine Knob, Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre, Mystic Lake Amphitheater, Ruoff Music Center, Truliant Amphitheater, Riverbend Music Center, Blossom Music Center, Discovery Park, Dos Equis Pavilion, and Ford Idaho Center. Geography: The Midwest Holds the Center
