Austin, TX · 2018–present · active
Heavy Doom Metal from Austin.
NJ · 2021–present · active
New Jersey's Gorthon have been crafting sludge-doom with weight and patience since 2021, building songs that move like slow erosion — unhurried, inevitable, and considerably heavier than anything that moves that slowly has any right to be.
TX · 2013–present · active
Operating out of Longview, Texas, GosT is the project of James Cody Lollar, who launched the darksynth persona in January 2013 under the pseudonym Baalberith. Drawing equally from horror film synthetics, black metal's bleak atmosphere, and the industrial aggression of early Ministry, GosT helped define the darksynth subgenre alongside Carpenter Brut and Perturbator. Albums including Possessor (2018), Valediction (2019), and Rites of Love and Reverence (2021) on Century Media and Metal Blade Records deepened his integration of metal into the electronic framework.
San Antonio, TX · 2018–present · active
San Antonio's Gothenbvrg take depressive black metal's most isolationist impulses and filter them through Texas heat since 2018 — spelling the city name in archaic script signals exactly the kind of grim romanticism the music embodies.
La Cienega, NM · 2024–present · active
La Cienega, New Mexico's Gouch arrived in 2024 combining grindcore's velocity with deathcore's breakdown-driven brutality — short, violent, and coming from one of the more unexpected corners of the American extreme metal map.
Fort Lauderdale, FL · 2012–present · active
Gouge Away are a Fort Lauderdale hardcore punk band whose music pulls post-hardcore tension, noise rock abrasion, and sharp melodic pressure into songs that feel both bruising and exposed. Formed in 2012, the group first built a reputation with urgent, politically charged punk before the album Dies and the Deathwish-released Burnt Sugar brought them wider attention. Christina Michelle's vocals give the band a recognizable edge, moving from scorched shouts to controlled, uneasy melodic phrasing while the guitars churn with the influence of Fugazi, Unwound, the Jesus Lizard, Nirvana, and the Pixies song that gave the band its name. Gouge Away's music is not built around metallic density, but it has the impact and volatility of heavy punk at its best. The rhythm section often pushes forward with hardcore economy while the guitars bend, scrape, and open into sour atmosphere. Later material such as Deep Sage has shown a broader emotional range without sanding down the band's bite. Gouge Away stand out because their songs can feel raw, disciplined, wounded, and defiant at the same time.
Nashville, TN · 2023–present · active
Nashville's Gouged Out channel death metal's brutality through hardcore's confrontational urgency since 2023, producing something that hits with the bluntness of a fist rather than the technicality of a scalpel. Visceral and direct.
Jarrell, TX · 2024–present · active
Jarrell, Texas's Gourge are a 2024 arrival to the brutal death metal tradition, pushing the genre's heaviest conventions with the intensity that Central Texas's extreme underground has been cultivating for years. Early days, but already relentless.
Kansas City, MO · 2017–present · active
Kansas City's Gourmand approach progressive technical death metal with the conceptual ambition the name implies since 2017 — feasting on harmonic complexity and rhythmic density, building compositions that demand attention and reward it.
