Bodysnatcher emerged from the swamps of South Florida in 2014, delivering a brand of deathcore and beatdown hardcore so heavy it feels like being buried alive. Their albums 'This Heavy Void' and 'Bleed-Abide' pair guttural vocals with crushing slam riffs and breakdowns designed to level any room. The band has become a cornerstone of the modern deathcore underground, earning respect through sheer sonic violence.
Eugene, OR · 2023–present · active
BOLTCUTTER emerged from Eugene, Oregon in 2023 with a brand of hip-hop-infused slam metal they call 'idiotic slamming chainbreak chuggery.' The band revels in absurdity, layering guttural slam vocals over crushing breakdowns and trap-influenced rhythms. Their debut material quickly earned attention in underground slam and brutal death metal circles for its unhinged energy and refusal to take itself seriously.
Chicago, IL · 2003–present · active
Chicago's Born of Osiris pioneered a symphonic, keyboard-laden strain of progressive deathcore that set them apart from their peers on albums like 'The Discovery' and 'Tomorrow We Die Alive.' Lee McKinney's technical guitar work and the band's integration of electronic and orchestral elements helped define the Sumerian Records sound of the early 2010s.
Salt Lake City, UT · 2007–present · active
Salt Lake City's Chelsea Grin are one of deathcore's most enduring and brutal acts, known for Tom Barber's (formerly Alex Koehler's) savage vocal delivery over relentlessly punishing breakdowns and technical riffing. From 'Desolation of Eden' through 'Eternal Nightmare,' the band has remained at the forefront of modern deathcore's most uncompromising wing.
Colorado Springs, CO · 2017–present · active
Crown Magnetar exploded out of Colorado Springs in 2017 with a brand of technical deathcore that pairs virtuosic instrumentation with unrelenting brutality. Vocalist Dan Tucker's guttural assault over intricate guitar work and blast beats on their debut EP 'The Prophet of Disgust' immediately caught the attention of the extreme metal underground. Their album 'Everything Bleeds' on Unique Leader Records cemented their status as one of the most punishing acts in modern deathcore.
MO · 2020–present · active
Disembodied Tyrant is a Missouri-based deathcore project that was launched in 2020 by vocalist Donovan Parchment and producer Wilhelm Vickers. After a lineup overhaul that brought vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Blake Mullens to the forefront, the project evolved into one of the more intense acts in the modern deathcore underground. Their punishing sound combines slamming breakdowns with technical precision in a way that appeals to fans of both traditional deathcore and more experimental heavy music.
New Fairfield, CT · 2003–present · active
Emmure has been one of metalcore's most polarizing and uncompromising forces since Frankie Palmeri formed the band in New Fairfield, Connecticut in 2003. Their trademark sound of devastating, chugging breakdowns layered with nu-metal swagger on albums like 'Speaker of the Dead' and 'Eternal Enemies' divides critics but packs venues. Palmeri's confrontational persona and the band's refusal to evolve beyond their brutally simplistic formula has paradoxically become their greatest artistic statement.
Spokane, WA · 2014–present · active
Enterprise Earth are a Spokane, Washington deathcore band formed in 2014 by Dan Watson and BJ Sampson, later evolving through major lineup changes into one of the genre's more technically ambitious modern acts. Early releases placed the band firmly in heavy deathcore territory, with guttural vocals, rapid-fire drums, breakdowns, and science-fiction or cosmic horror imagery. Albums such as Patient 0, Embodiment, Luciferous, The Chosen, and Death: An Anthology show a group increasingly interested in progressive structure, death metal musicianship, and melodic contrast without abandoning the physical impact expected from deathcore. The departure of original members did not erase the identity; instead, guitarist Gabe Mangold and later vocalist Travis Worland helped steer the band toward a more expansive version of extremity. Enterprise Earth's songs can be technical and theatrical, but they usually return to a core of punishing riffs and bleak atmosphere. Their lyrics and concepts often circle transformation, mortality, spiritual conflict, and vast destructive forces, giving the music a cinematic scale. Enterprise Earth matter because they show deathcore's ability to grow beyond a breakdown formula while still preserving its most immediate appeal: overwhelming force, precision, and the promise of collapse.
NY · 2023–present · active
New York-based deathcore outfit Face Yourself channel the fury of Myspace-era brutality through a modern lens, anchored by vocalist Yasmin Liverneaux Belkhodja's crushing delivery and a multinational lineup spanning France, New Jersey, and Colorado. Since forming in 2023, the band has rapidly released three EPs showcasing their evolution as purveyors of devastating breakdowns and melodic heaviness.
