New York hardcore outfit SubZero was formed in 1989 by veterans of the NYHC scene, including members of Breakdown and Up Front, with vocalist Lou di Bella completing the lineup. Their 1996 debut full-length Happiness Without Peace established them as a durable force in the metallic hardcore underground, and the track 'Boxed In' was later covered by Hatebreed on For the Lions. Despite di Bella's battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia halting the band in the late 1990s, SubZero resumed activity and released The Suffering of Man in 2004.
Sudden Strength is a Los Angeles thrash/hardcore band formed in 2021, drawing equally from the velocity and riffing of thrash metal and the raw intensity of hardcore punk in the tradition of the LA crossover scene.
