From Clarion, Pennsylvania, Shadow of Corvus have spent a decade developing their take on melodic death metal — layering hooky, harmonized guitar work over the death metal foundation that gives their sound its backbone. Formed in 2015, they represent the quieter corners of Pennsylvania's extreme metal output.

New York's Shadow of Demise have been at it since 2006, fusing the groove-forward chug of groove metal with outright death metal brutality into a sound that's both punishing and propulsive. Their long tenure gives them a road-worn authority that newer bands are still working toward.

Connecticut's Shadow of Intent are one of the most ambitious acts in modern deathcore, layering symphonic grandeur and melodic death metal sophistication over the crushing weight of the genre since 2014. Their elaborate orchestration and precise, technical aggression have made them a benchmark for cinematic extreme metal in the US.

Named with a nod to Gene Wolfe's science fantasy, Seattle's Shadow of the Torturer meld the slow-building menace of doom, the sludge of the Pacific Northwest underground, and death metal's terminal weight into a sound as bleak and relentless as the city's winters. Active since 2012, they've built their craft within one of America's richest heavy music scenes.

Saginaw, Michigan's Shadow People draw from a wide pool of extreme and classic metal influences, blending thrash's speed and bite with doom's heft and death metal's brutality into a genre-agnostic sound since 2010. Their Midwest roots show in a no-frills approach that keeps the focus squarely on the riff.

Illinois death metal outfit Shadowalker formed in 2022, arriving with a lean, aggressive approach rooted in the American death metal tradition. Their work channels unrelenting brutality with a stripped-back directness that keeps the focus squarely on crushing riffs and punishing rhythms.

Berrien Springs, Michigan's Shadowchord have been grinding through death metal territory since 2002, marking them as one of the longer-running acts in the state's underground scene. Their approach stays true to the mid-period American death metal aesthetic — heavy, rhythmically punishing, and uninterested in glossy production.

Dallas newcomers Shadowed Sacrifice launched in 2025 with a ferocious convergence of black, death, and thrash metal, arriving fully committed to extremity from the start. The trio of genre influences produces a venomous, fast-moving sound that reflects the uncompromising intensity of the Texas underground.

Shadowforge emerged from Buenos Aires in 2020 working within the melodic death metal lineage, pairing hook-laden leads with the downtuned aggression the genre demands. Though registered with a US country code, the band's Argentine roots color their approach with a South American heaviness that gives their melodic ambitions an added edge.
