Only Two Venues Cracked Multiple Metal Shows: Inside US Metal Index's Venue Data
As of 2026-10-29, US Metal Index's venue database returns a striking result: across the 11 venues currently tracked with at least one logged show, only two have hosted more than a single metal performance. The Fillmore Auditorium in Denver, Colorado, and The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California, each show a count of 2 — making them, by a narrow margin, the most active metal venues in our index right now.
Every other venue in the dataset sits at exactly 1 show. That flat distribution is itself the headline here. Rather than a handful of road-tested clubs dominating the circuit, the current snapshot shows a wide, shallow spread: 11 distinct venues across 8 states, each contributing a single data point to a national picture that is still filling in.
The Current Leaderboard
Here is the full ranked list as it stands in our system today:
| Rank | Venue | City | State | Show Count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fillmore Auditorium (Denver) | Denver | CO | 2 |
| 1 | The Wiltern | Los Angeles | CA | 2 |
| 3 | Camping World Stadium | Orlando | FL | 1 |
| 3 | Empire Underground | Albany | NY | 1 |
| 3 | Gramercy Theatre | New York | NY | 1 |
| 3 | Mohegan Sun Arena | Uncasville | CT | 1 |
| 3 | Neurolux Lounge | Boise | ID | 1 |
| 3 | TSDMAAC | Detroit | MI | 1 |
| 3 | The Belasco | Los Angeles | CA | 1 |
| 3 | The Masquerade - Purgatory | Atlanta | GA | 1 |
| 3 | Whisky A Go Go | West Hollywood | CA | 1 |
Summing the show counts across all 11 venues produces a total of 13 logged metal performances in the current dataset. That's a small enough number that every individual show matters to the shape of the ranking — add one more date at Neurolux Lounge in Boise and it jumps straight into a tie for first place.
California Leads in Venue Count, Not Show Count
California is the only state with three separate venues represented — The Wiltern, The Belasco, and Whisky A Go Go, all within the Los Angeles metro area, with the latter specifically in West Hollywood. Despite that density, California's combined show total across those three venues is 4, only one more than Colorado and Los Angeles's Wiltern alone contribute when paired with Denver's single top-ranked venue. New York is the only other state with multiple venues logged: Empire Underground in Albany and the Gramercy Theatre in Manhattan, each sitting at 1 show apiece, illustrating that New York's metal footprint in our index currently stretches beyond the five boroughs rather than concentrating inside them.
The remaining six venues are each the lone representative of their state: Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Neurolux Lounge in Boise, TSDMAAC in Detroit, and The Masquerade - Purgatory in Atlanta. That's a genuinely national footprint for a dataset this size — Florida, Connecticut, Idaho, Michigan, and Georgia all appear exactly once, alongside Colorado's single entry.
Stadiums, Theaters, and Clubs Side by Side
What stands out beyond geography is the range of venue types sitting at the same rank. Camping World Stadium — an NFL and college football venue with capacity in the tens of thousands — shows the identical count of 1 as Neurolux Lounge, a small club room in Boise. The Mohegan Sun Arena, a casino arena built for national touring acts, also registers just 1 show, matching The Masquerade's Purgatory room, a mid-sized club stage that's part of Atlanta's multi-room Masquerade complex.
This tells us something about where the data currently stands rather than about the relative importance of these rooms to the metal scene. A stadium date and a club gig both register as a single event in our system; the count reflects shows logged, not audience size, ticket price, or historical significance. As our database of upcoming shows continues to grow, we'd expect venues that host metal regularly — multi-night club circuits, recurring festival stops, and venues embedded in touring routes — to pull ahead of one-off stadium or arena bookings that happen to land a single large show.
What the Two Leaders Have in Common
Fillmore Auditorium in Denver and The Wiltern in Los Angeles are both mid-capacity theaters, not clubs and not arenas — the Fillmore in the 3,700-capacity range and The Wiltern similarly sized, both historic rooms that regularly host touring rock and metal bills. Their tie at 2 shows apiece, however modest in absolute terms, fits a pattern worth watching: theater-scale venues occupying the space between club circuits and arena tours may be where recurring metal bookings first show up as the index expands. Whether that pattern holds as more shows are logged, or whether a currently single-show venue like TSDMAAC in Detroit or the Gramercy Theatre in New York overtakes them, is something only more data will answer.
Methodology
This analysis is based on US Metal Index's own database of bands, shows, and venues, which tracks metal, punk, and heavy music performances across the United States. The figures above reflect show counts attributed to each venue in our system as of 2026-10-29 and include only venues with at least one logged show. As our indexing of touring and historical show data continues, these rankings are expected to shift; this post captures a snapshot in time rather than a fixed historical record.
